In case anyone is confused, Virginia is a southern state. And Danville, Virginia, the last capital of the Confederacy, is my home town. In fact, Robert E. Lee is my great, great, great uncle (not). I have many great memories of growing up in Danville as the bossy big sister to my three siblings. We lived in an old home with a big porch where many life events took place including first kisses, break ups and a lot of girl talk.
I graduated from Virginia Tech and, as a wide-eyed child bride, moved with my husband to Athens, Georgia, just for a year or two before making my dream of living in the Big Apple come true. Well, a year or two somehow turned into 26.
Athens became home and a wonderful land of opportunity for over 20 years of community leadership and involvement. I again found myself in a lovely historic house with a big porch where a lot of action took place including random drunk college kids kissing in the porch swing and toddlers occasionally falling off the sides.
Talking, according to my friends, is a passion of mine so instead of monopolizing them one on one, I gave them a break, picked up a microphone and talked over the radio
(LizTalk www.1340wgau.com). That was seven years ago, and pre-empty nest. 3,400 guests later, I am still doing it.
I talked so much about empty nest because my husband and I found it SO unexpectedly fabulous that I must have said a little too much. Because now they’re baaaccckkk! That would be my two children (a.k.a. young adults), both of whom I find very entertaining (code for “good show material!”)
A few things you should know about me:
- I’m a “wordie” with an entire vocabulary that doesn’t make sense to you….yet.
- Don’t mention “dance” to me unless you want to have a conversation because that’s all I want to talk about. It is my newfound passion, and I have been dubbed the “dancing evangelical.” I am twice a spectacle on YouTube (www.youtube.com Liz Dalton dancing) from Dancing with the Athens Stars. Did I mention competitive ballroom dancing?
- My biggest fear is aging, and it’s not because I’m scared of getting wrinkles.
- Bob Marley is alive and well in our house and driving me crazy every day.
- I changed my name mid-life and it changed me.
Life happens, on and off “The Porch” – the good, the bad, the ugly and the funny. I can’t wait to talk to you about it all! There is actually more to my life, so kindly visit www.lizdalton.com.

Well Lizzie. L O V E this bio! Can’t wait to see this thing!

Liz – What a wonderful concept for a show! Good luck and have a great time (I know you will)! I miss your porch but this should be the next best thing.

“Liz” – I wish you the moon with this pilot. I think the cast is wonderful and you are FABULOUS! My only question is that if you get a show called The Porch, can I get one called The Basement?
Love you!

Liz, I am so proud of you I can hardly stand it. For all the years that I was booking radio guests with you I already know what an intelligent, thoughtful and creative host you are! But with this series/pilot I have to say you have hit your homerun! This whole style and loving southern hospitality fits you to a T and the entire country will fall in love with you the same way I have over the years! Brava my friend. Keep blazin those trails!
Cheers!
